Millions of people around the world have taken part in protests against the Iranian government. The demonstrations were held at the call of the exiled son of the former Shah of Iran, Reza Pahlavi, for a \u2018Global Day of Action\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Addressing an estimated 250,000 people in Munich, Reza Pahlavi condemned the government\u2019s crackdown on recent protests and called for the government\u2019s downfall. The largest gatherings were held in Munich, Los Angeles and Toronto on Saturday, while demonstrations were also held in other cities including Tel Aviv, Lisbon, Sydney and London.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Participants in these protests raised their voices against rising inflation and government repression in Iran. According to the US-based human rights organization HRANA, 6,872 protesters have been killed so far, including more than 150 children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Iranian authorities have confirmed at least 3,000 deaths, but claim some of them were security personnel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking in Los Angeles, Reza Pahlavi\u2019s daughter Noor Pahlavi said the Iranian people had \u201cnever been closer to freedom from this Islamic regime.\u201d She called on US President Donald Trump to end ongoing nuclear talks with Iran\u2019s leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
About 350,000 people took part in a demonstration in Toronto, saying they had come out to be a voice for their friends and family in Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The protests in Iran began on December 28, initially against the economic crisis but soon turned into an anti-government movement. The demonstrations spread to more than 100 cities and towns across the country\u2019s provinces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Many protesters chanted slogans in support of Reza Pahlavi and demanded his return to politics. Reza Pahlavi, who was 18 years old at the time of the 1979 revolution, is once again trying to play a role in Iran’s future nearly 50 years later.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
