The American broadcaster CBS\u2014a partner organization to the BBC in the United States\u2014reported that a US official and a senior military official stated on Wednesday that the US military is quietly reducing its troop presence at certain bases in the Middle East. This move comes in light of ongoing regional threats posed by the Houthis and direct threats from Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The American broadcaster NBC was the first to report this news on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Responding to these reports, Captain Tim Hawkins, a spokesperson for US Central Command (CENTCOM), told CBS that the US military routinely moves personnel and equipment to enhance operational readiness for various missions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He stated: “For operational security reasons, we do not provide details regarding such movements. US forces remain vigilant and prepared to protect American personnel and interests throughout the region.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Separately, the US State Department has directed non-essential staff at the US Embassy in Saudi Arabia\u2014as well as their family members\u2014to leave the country, citing threats linked to the Iranian-backed Houthi group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CBS further reported that some US embassies in the Middle East have also adjusted their staffing levels as part of a shift to “limited operations.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The US State Department had announced this “limited operations” policy in August, amid rising tensions and an escalating conflict with Iran.
