Former U.S. President Barack Obama has sharply criticized President Donald Trump’s decision to initiate a conflict with Iran, stating that his own administration had successfully prevented Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons through a nuclear deal—without having to fire a single missile.

Speaking at a campaign event in Cleveland, Ohio, on Saturday, Barack Obama noted that Iran did not possess nuclear weapons because a deal had been reached—one that was widely acknowledged as effective in preventing Iran from developing such arms.

“I didn’t have to fire a single missile,” he said. “I simply chose the path of diplomacy.”

Referring to Donald Trump’s withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear agreement and his subsequent initiation of a conflict with Iran, Obama remarked, “He pulled out of the deal and started this war. Seven months have passed now—and it has been six months since he declared victory. So, how is this war going?”

The former U.S. President added, “American allies and military bases have been targeted, American citizens have been killed, hundreds have been wounded, and our own missile stockpiles have been depleted.”

Obama further stated that Iran now effectively holds a “veto” over the transport of oil through the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, this situation has led to an increase in the prices of oil, diesel, and other commodities within the United States. In another part of his speech, Obama also criticized U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, alleging that the Trump administration is preoccupied with trivial matters rather than seriously addressing the country’s critical issues.
