A new government was formed in Bangladesh on Tuesday under the leadership of the Bangladesh National Party after 18 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met Jamaat-e-Islami chief Dr Shafiqur Rahman in Dhaka, which the Indian High Commission described as a meeting in a statement issued on X. The meeting took place during the swearing-in ceremony of the new government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to a statement issued by the Indian High Commission on X, the Indian Foreign Secretary congratulated Dr Shafiqur Rahman on his new post and said that India-Bangladesh relations are linked to common interests. Dr Shafiqur Rahman, emphasizing the deep cultural ties between the two countries, expressed hope that the relations will further strengthen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The swearing-in ceremony was also attended by Indian Parliament Speaker Om Birla, who conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi\u2019s congratulatory message to the newly elected Prime Minister Tariq Rahman. Prime Minister Modi also invited Tariq Rahman to visit India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It should be recalled that in the general elections held in Bangladesh on February 12, the Bangladesh National Party (BNP) won a landslide majority, while the Jamaat-e-Islami emerged as the second largest opposition party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first meeting of the newly formed government and its new cabinet in Bangladesh will be held on Wednesday, i.e. today at 3 pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
