Students have once again staged anti-government protests at several Iranian universities, the first major demonstrations of this scale since a deadly crackdown by authorities last month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The BBC has confirmed footage of protesters marching on the campus of Sharif University of Technology in the capital Tehran on Saturday. Clashes later broke out between protesters and government supporters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A sit-in was also held at another university in Tehran, while there were reports of a rally in the city’s northeast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The students were paying tribute to the thousands killed during mass protests in January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hundreds of protesters can be seen peacefully marching on the campus of Sharif University of Technology on Saturday to mark the start of the new semester, a video confirmed by the BBC shows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The students gathered chanted \u201cDown with the dictator\u201d and other anti-government slogans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A separate crowd can also be seen at the beginning of the video, which was pro-government. During this time, clashes also occurred between the two groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition, verified images of a peaceful sit-in have also emerged at Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The BBC has also verified footage from another Tehran institution, Amir Kabir University of Technology, in which anti-government slogans can be seen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to reports, local students in Iran\u2019s second largest city, Mashhad, also chanted slogans such as \u201cFreedom, freedom\u201d and \u201cSpeak up for your rights.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
