The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) said that 129 journalists and media workers were killed worldwide in 2025, the highest annual number in the past 30 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is the second consecutive year that a new record has been set for the killing of journalists, according to an annual report released on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The organization says that more than two-thirds of the deaths are due to Israeli forces. The backdrop to these deaths is the war in Gaza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAt a time when access to reliable information is more important than ever, journalists are being targeted in large numbers,\u201d CPJ Chief Executive Officer Judy Ginsburg said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She added that when journalists are killed while carrying out their duties, the entire world is affected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The report urges governments to take urgent and effective measures to ensure the safety of journalists, in order to prevent the ever-increasing threats faced by journalists and media workers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
