Pakistan\u2019s National Cybercrime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has given a clean chit to former member of the National Assembly and Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) leader Ali Wazir in a case registered against him for allegedly spreading anti-state content on social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This development came to light during a hearing before a two-member constitutional bench of the Sindh High Court comprising Justice Arbab Ali and Justice Riaz Ali Sahar. The Deputy Attorney General told the court that the inquiry report submitted by the NCCIA did not find evidence of any crime against Ali Wazir under the Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After reviewing the report, Ali Wazir\u2019s lawyer Imdad Haider Solangi took the stand that when the cybercrime agency has cleared him, why is his client still in Sukkur jail? He said that this was the last pending case against the minister and in all other cases he had either secured bail or been acquitted, so he should be released immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Deputy Attorney General informed the court that the inquiry report had been sent to the Additional Director of NCIA Karachi Zone for final order. However, the defense counsel alleged that the agency was deliberately delaying the proceedings so that the minister\u2019s detention would continue, and requested the court to intervene immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Accepting the application, the court adjourned the hearing of the case till March 10, 2026 and ordered the Superintendent of Sukkur Jail and the Additional Director of NCIA Karachi Zone to appear in person at the next hearing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking to Voice PK, Imdad Haider Solangi expressed hope that the court would order the release of Ali Wazir at the next hearing as there was no legal basis left to keep him in detention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ali Wazir\u2019s legal troubles began on August 4, 2024, when the Islamabad police arrested him on charges of a road accident, and later an anti-terrorism case was also registered against him. Although the Islamabad High Court granted him bail in September 2024, his release could not be implemented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later, the Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner issued an order for his detention under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO). According to Badshah Wazir, a close associate of Ali Wazir, detention orders under the MPO were repeatedly issued in different districts, many of which were declared null and void by the courts, but despite this, he was not released.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, anti-terrorism cases were also registered against him in Balochistan and Sindh, in most of which he has been acquitted or the courts have declared the charges not to fall under the category of terrorism. A case registered in Nawabshah was also referred to the NCCIA by the Anti-Terrorism Court for further investigation, in which he has now been cleared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Badshah Wazir says that Ali Wazir is being continuously detained for his political stance and raising his voice for public rights. He also expressed concern about his health, saying that he is suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease and has not been able to undergo a regular medical check-up since August 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All eyes are on the possible decision of the court in the upcoming hearing, where significant progress is expected regarding Ali Wazir\u2019s release.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
