In Pakistan\u2019s capital Islamabad, with the stance that \u201cjustice delayed is justice denied,\u201d the Islamabad High Court (IHC) heard the appeals against the sentences of human rights lawyer Iman Zainab Mazari Hazir and her husband Hadi Ali Chatha in the controversial tweets case on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The court, while hearing the petition for early hearing of the appeals and suspension of the sentences, dissolved the relevant bench and directed that the matter be placed before Chief Justice Sardar Sarfaraz Dogar for the formation of a new bench. This order was issued by Justice Muhammad Asif.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It may be recalled that in January, a sessions court had sentenced the couple to a total of 17 years in prison on various charges. A day after the sentencing, they were arrested from Islamabad in a separate case. The appeals filed by both against the sentences are currently pending in the High Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the other hand, Iman Mazari\u2019s mother Shireen Mazari, reacting on the social media platform \u201cX\u201d, said that justice is being delayed due to the ongoing legal battle in the high-profile case, which is actually tantamount to denial of justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the court proceedings, all eyes are now focused on the formation of a new bench and the date of the next hearing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
