After the arrest of several political leaders in Gilgit-Baltistan under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) and sections 153-A and 505 of the Pakistan Penal Code, there is concern in political and social circles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to reports, a peaceful Iftar party was organized by the Awami Action Committee GB during Ramadan in which public problems and their solutions were discussed. However, the authorities used this gathering as a basis and registered cases under the Anti-Terrorism Act and arrested more than 6 central leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The arrested leaders include Central Chairman Ehsan Ali Advocate, Central General Secretary Zarif Abbas Advocate, Central Vice Chairman Engineer Mehboob Ali, Vice Chairman Fida Ehsan, President Lawyer Wing Muhammad Nafees Advocate, Engineer Nadeem Bhalwar and Masood-ur-Rehman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to reports, seven to eight more leaders, including Waheed Hassan, Asghar Shah, Mehr Ali and Nusrat Hussain, are currently in hiding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Political and social circles say that according to the Constitution of Pakistan, peaceful political activity is a fundamental right of every citizen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to them, the government’s actions against peaceful political activists are against civil liberties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Karakoram National Movement and other social circles have condemned these arrests and demanded that the arrested leaders be released immediately, baseless cases be withdrawn and interference in peaceful political and social activities should stop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
