US President Donald Trump has claimed that there have been \u201cvery positive, productive and constructive talks\u201d with Iran over the past two days for a \u201ccomplete and comprehensive resolution\u201d to the Middle East conflict, and due to this progress, the United States has postponed attacks on Iranian power plants and energy facilities for five days. However, Iran has strongly denied all these claims, saying that there are no talks between the two countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Trump said on his social media platform Truth Social that he has instructed the War Department to stop all military strikes on Iran for five days, which will be conditional on the success of the ongoing negotiations. Later, in an interview with AFP, he said that \u201cthe situation is going very well with Iran.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, immediately after Trump’s statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry announced that there had been no contact or talks between Tehran and Washington. According to Iran, these statements by the US president are an attempt to “bring down energy prices” and “buy time for their military plans.” After Trump’s announcement, oil prices in the global market fell and financial markets improved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking to reporters before boarding Air Force One in Palm Beach, Trump said that the US was taking a five-day break to see where the talks go. According to him, “If it goes in the right direction, we will resolve the issue, and if not, we will continue to bomb with full force.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Trump also claimed that Iran could possibly agree to give up its nuclear program in exchange for peace. He said that the US was going to target Iran’s largest power plant, but the action was postponed due to the talks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the US president, the two countries are discussing 15 points to end the war, with Iran giving up its nuclear weapons as the \u201cfirst, second and third\u201d points. He also said he wants to see \u201cserious regime change\u201d. Trump claimed that the US had spoken to \u201ca high-ranking person\u201d in Iran, but not the new supreme leader, and even said that \u201cwe don\u2019t know if he\u2019s alive or not\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Despite Iran\u2019s outright denial, Trump has maintained that the talks have been \u201cvery strong\u201d and that there are \u201csignificant points of agreement\u201d between the two countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the other hand, Fars News, affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards, quoted an unnamed Iranian source as saying that \u201cthere was no direct or indirect contact\u201d with Trump. According to the source, the US president decided to back down when he was informed that Iran\u2019s targets could include \u201call the power plants in West Asia\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Iran says that despite ongoing mediation efforts in the region, Tehran is not the party that started the war, so all requests should be sent to Washington.
