Overall, terrorism-related violence in Pakistan recorded a decrease during the first quarter of 2026, however, the situation in Balochistan has become extremely worrying where an unprecedented increase in deaths was observed.
According to a report by the Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), incidents of violence in Balochistan increased by 104%, and the number of deaths increased from 217 to 443, which is the highest level in the last 13 years.
According to the report, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remained the main areas of violence during this period, however, while deaths in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa decreased significantly, Balochistan saw a continuous increase in intensity.
According to the data, 55% of the total deaths in Pakistan occurred in Balochistan alone, which indicates that the province is currently facing a severe security crisis.
The report said that the tactics of extremist groups have changed, including the increasing use of modern weapons, explosives and drone technology. These tactics have made the attacks more deadly.
In addition, the increase in the activities of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Baloch separatist organizations has also been cited as a major reason for the increase in violence.
According to the report, although overall violence has decreased in other parts of the country, the growing unrest in Balochistan is affecting this decrease and this trend is a serious threat for the future.
It should be noted that the security situation has further deteriorated since the Baloch Liberation Army hijacking of the Jaffar Express last year and Operation Herof II this year, while Pakistani forces have been continuously targeted by coordinated attacks by the BLA.
Pakistani forces and government properties were targeted in Balochistan this week as well, and this trend has continued, causing large-scale casualties and material losses to the forces.
