Kashgil News Exclusive Report
Located in Naseerabad, Tehsil Patka, Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistan-administered Kashmir, the Wildlife Park, which was once a tourist attraction due to its natural beauty and rare birds and animals, is now facing problems due to administrative negligence.
The park was established in the 1980s as a pheasant breeding center, where initially limited work was done for breeding pheasant birds. A regular scheme was introduced in 2002 for its expansion, while the park was severely damaged after the devastating earthquake of 2005. Later, ERAA provided funds and restored it, and in 2021 it was given the status of a regular wildlife park.
The park currently has more than 100 rare birds and wild animals, but serious questions are being raised about their maintenance.
According to reports, on December 13, 2022, a leopard entered a cage and killed three rare deer, while on December 22, 2025, a markhor also died due to alleged negligence.
The director of the wildlife department has termed the death of the markhor as a heart attack.
According to sources, the birds in the park are suffering from various diseases and an increase in deaths is being seen.
A wildlife official said on condition of anonymity that the breeding of birds is continuously declining, the main reason for which is departmental negligence.
Tourists have also expressed concern about the situation in the park.
According to a local tourist, Bilal Ahmed, the birds appear to be anxious due to lack of food and pounce on those who come near the cages in search of food.
Locals say that problems such as shortage of staff in the park, lack of medical facilities and lack of proper food for the animals have intensified, which are posing a threat to the rare wildlife.
Environmentalists have demanded that the government immediately ensure quality care, effective veterinary facilities and professional arrangements at other wildlife centers, including the Naseerabad Wildlife Park, to ensure the conservation of valuable wildlife.
