Javed Butt, an elected MLA from Rawalpindi in the Legislative Assembly of Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir and a former minister, was allegedly assaulted in an unpleasant incident that took place outside the RO office in Rawalpindi recently.
His son Khawar Butt and another son were also reportedly affected in the incident.
According to sources and eyewitnesses, the incident took place when Aziz Tariq Aziz Lone, a close relative of PML-N’s prospective assembly candidate Yasin Lone, was present at the RO office along with his colleagues regarding objections to the voter lists. At the same time, Javed Butt reached the office with his son, where bitter words were exchanged on both sides, which later turned into intense tension, pushing and shoving.
Eyewitnesses say that during the argument, Javed Butt and his son Khawar Butt were assaulted and their clothes were also torn. When the situation became tense, the police were called, after which Javed Butt, Khawar Butt and another son of theirs were shifted to Bani Police Station, Rawalpindi.
According to sources, they were kept in the police station for about three hours, but were later released after the intervention of some influential figures and assurances of being careful in the future.
On the other hand, sources claim that a few days ago, a dispute also arose in the RO office over voter registration. According to reports, Javed Butt tried to register hundreds of new voters, to which the relevant authorities and the local committee raised objections and stopped the process. However, no official position was taken by any government agency in this regard.
According to sources, Javed Butt appeared extremely angry about this situation and contacted his party leadership, however, when he did not get the desired political support, he used harsh and controversial language regarding some leaders of the party leadership. Sources say that he complained that “the person who gave political power to the party in Azad Kashmir, today no one can stand with him.”
There are various rumors going on in political circles after this incident, while there has been no official response from Javed Butt or his party on this matter.
