Two separate incidents of firing on policemen guarding a polio team have taken place in the tribal district of Bajaur in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, in which two policemen were killed.
District Police Officer (DPO) Bajaur Muhammad Khalid Khan confirmed the incidents and told the BBC that policeman Syed Aziz was shot dead in the Dag Qila area of ​​​​Salarzai tehsil while Syed Qadir was shot dead on his way back from polio duty in Tabai.
According to the DPO, the area has been cordoned off after these incidents and a search operation is underway.
He said that today was the first day of the polio campaign, which will continue until May 24, and more than 1,500 personnel have been deployed in Bajaur district for this.
Later, the funeral prayers of both the officials were offered at the Bajaur Police Line Ground.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and Governor Faisal Karim Kundi have taken notice of the firing on polio teams in Bajaur and have strongly condemned the incident.
