Iran has full right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes, Russia

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says that Iran has full right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes.

According to Russia’s official news agency Tass, Lavrov said that “the basic principle is that Iran, like any other party to the Non-Proliferation Treaty, has full right to enrich uranium for peaceful energy purposes.”

Uranium enrichment is a key point in the negotiations between Iran and the United States.

On Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghai said that “Iran will not negotiate or compromise on its right to enrich uranium.”

Talking about the issue of uranium enrichment, he said, “It is certain that this is not an issue on which we can negotiate or compromise.” Iran’s right to enrich has been recognized under the Non-Proliferation Treaty.

Earlier yesterday, Iran’s Fars news agency reported that the United States had imposed five conditions, including the transfer of 400 kilograms of enriched uranium to the United States, for the resumption of talks.
