Hearing on the applications for suspension of sentences of Iman Mazari & Hadi Ali adjourned

The Islamabad High Court in Pakistan has adjourned the hearing on the applications for suspension of sentences of human rights activist and lawyer Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha without any progress due to the absence of the Special Prosecution Team.

The court has adjourned the next hearing of the case until June 4.

Talking to the media after the hearing, Iman Mazari’s lawyer Jibran Nasir said that today’s proceedings have given the impression that the state is looking for different justifications to keep Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha in jail.

According to him, due to the absence of the prosecution team, no progress could be made in the case.

On the other hand, Iman Mazari’s mother and former federal minister Sherry Mazari, while reacting to the court proceedings, said that the question arises as to why the delivery of justice is being delayed.

He said that the defense wants the court to decide on the appeal, whether it is accepted or rejected, but the case should not be unnecessarily prolonged.

The petitioners have requested suspension of the sentence and release, however, the next hearing in the court will be on June 4, where further action on the case is expected.
