The situation in the entire region is extremely tense after the failure of negotiations between the Government of Pakistan, the Government of Azad Kashmir and the Joint Public Action Committee on the abolition of 12 refugee seats and the bloody crackdown launched by the state to stop the long march of June 9. Despite the deployment of more than 14,000 additional forces from Pakistan, complete suspension of the internet and violation of the sanctity of the chadar and four walls, the Kashmiri people are standing firm for their rights.
In the context of the current blackout and security situation, according to the confirmed and reliable information received so far regarding Omar Nazir Kashmiri, a key leader of the Action Committee, a tragic incident has happened to him near the Khaigula Birmang Bridge.
According to reports, Umar Nazir Kashmiri was seriously injured in direct firing by the police on peaceful protesters, while his senior and loyal colleague Shazab Habib was killed on the spot.
After the incident, Umar Nazir Kashmiri managed to reach a house in a nearby area in his injured condition. When the family members saw him injured in the verandah, they immediately helped him, provided him with first aid and later shifted him to a safe place.
According to the information received, he was shot near the ear, while some reports also indicate that he was shot more than once. Due to the injuries, he had lost a lot of blood and was not able to talk much. He is currently being provided with medical assistance.
Omar Nazir Kashmiri has appealed to the public: “Tomorrow, all the honorable people should go to Rawalakot city, wear a shroud on their heads and whoever has influence or contact in their area should make announcements in mosques in favor of this protest movement.”
He has also said that his important associates Tauseef Riaz, Shahzad Azhar alias Munna Bhai, Adil Sahib and Bilal Khan Afzal alias Nanha are currently missing since the forces’ operation. No confirmed information has been received regarding them yet. According to unconfirmed reports, he has been arrested in an injured condition, however, this claim has not been confirmed yet.
By the grace of Allah Almighty, Omar Nazir Kashmiri is currently in a safe place. Due to security reasons and fear of state reprisals, it is not appropriate to disclose his current location or the details of the house where he was initially provided shelter and assistance.
The public is requested to remain extremely vigilant in the areas of Barmang, Khaigala and surrounding areas and play their full role for the safety and security of Omar Nazir Kashmiri Sahib. In the current situation, there is a dire need for unity, responsibility and mutual cooperation.
