The Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly under Pakistan administration has passed a resolution to make Gilgit-Baltistan an interim province of Pakistan.
A resolution to make GB an interim province of Pakistan was presented in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, which said that making Gilgit-Baltistan an interim province should not change Pakistan’s position on the Kashmir issue.
The resolution states that Gilgit-Baltistan should be represented in the National Assembly and Senate of Pakistan, JB should be represented in all constitutional institutions of Pakistan, while the federal government should take all necessary constitutional and administrative steps to implement the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly resolution.
The resolution said that making Gilgit-Baltistan an interim province should not affect the future referendum of Kashmir, and that its interim provincial status will not have any impact on Pakistan’s position on the issue of Jammu and Kashmir.
The resolution proposed to grant constitutional and democratic rights to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan on par with other provinces, while recommending the initiation of constitutional, legal and administrative measures for the implementation of the resolution.
According to the resolution, the interim provincial status will be in accordance with Pakistan’s international obligations.
It should be noted that the recent controversial and engineered elections in Gilgit-Baltistan, like the rest of the country, were held under the auspices of the Pakistan Army; in which, maintaining the traditions of the past, local politicians, nationalists and real public representatives were implicated in various cases to block their path so that they would stay away from the elections. Thus, without any public support and vote bank, favored individuals were elected, who are now passing laws of their own choice in the assembly.
