The international human rights organization Amnesty International has called for an impartial and transparent investigation into the unlawful use of force by security forces in Rawalakot, a town in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
Amnesty International said in a report released on social media that it has received reports that the situation in Rawalakot is alarming, consistent with a long history of unlawful violence by Pakistani authorities against protesters in Jammu and Kashmir.
It said that an immediate, impartial and transparent investigation into the use of force by security forces against protesters should be ordered. As long as the shutdown of internet and mobile services continues, independent verification of the full nature of the situation on the ground will remain severely hampered.
We urge the Pakistani authorities to restore all communication facilities and allow media and independent observers access to the area.
