A youth from Sidhnoti district of Balochistan in Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir, Owais son of Ibrahim, who was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Rawalpindi after being injured in firing by Pakistani forces, succumbed to his injuries tonight.
According to the family, they had to pay Rs 30,000 to the Punjab Police to get Owais’ body.
The family has alleged that money was demanded for the handover of the body, over which they have expressed serious reservations. An independent and transparent investigation into the incident is being demanded.
On the other hand, the complete details of the incident, the motives for the firing and the allegations regarding the handover of the body could not be confirmed by independent sources.
It should be remembered that a complete crackdown has been going on in Kashmir for the past three months to crush the ongoing public movements for fundamental rights. During this time, forces have killed more than 100 unarmed people by direct fire, which falls under the category of war crimes. In addition, hundreds of people have been subjected to enforced disappearances, while thousands have been arrested and imprisoned.
