Complete shutdown and shutter-down strike in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, 3 months of public movement

A complete and partial shutdown and shutter-down strike was observed across Kashmir on September 9 on the call of the Jammu Kashmir Joint Public Action Committee (JKJAAC).

With this protest, the ongoing movement for a Charter of Demands of Public Rights has completed 3 months.

On the completion of three months of this protest, which began with the historic long march from Bhimber to Muzaffarabad on June 9, the Joint Action Committee again called for a state-wide strike.

Rawalakot, Bagh and Kotli: There was a complete shutdown in Rawalakot and Bagh where all business centers were closed and traffic was suspended on the roads. There were also reports of the administration sealing several shops participating in the strike in Bagh district.

A partial strike was observed in the capital Muzaffarabad. All markets and commercial centers of Plate Upper Adda remained completely closed, while shops remained open in Bank Road and Tali Mandi areas.

General traffic flow on highways in all districts and towns was very less than usual.

The main sit-in of the Public Action Committee has been going on in Rawalakot for the last three months where thousands of citizens are protesting for their legitimate rights. No positive progress has been made so far in the negotiation process between the government and the Joint Action Committee, due to which the stalemate between the parties remains.

The leaders of the Action Committee have made it clear that the protest will continue until the final approval of the demands, while the government circles are claiming to resolve the issue through talks.
