Several US military aircraft damaged in Iranian missile attacks on US air base in Jordan

According to the BBC’s US partner CBS News, several US military aircraft were damaged in Iranian missile attacks on the Mawfaq Sulti air base in Jordan on Wednesday morning local time.

According to the sources, about eight F-15s suffered minor damage and were returned to the air force after repairs. The sources spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter.

The sources also said that an A-10 Thunderbolt attack aircraft, known as the Warthog, lost one of its wings as a result of the missile attack.

Intelligence sources who spoke to CBS said that no US service members were killed in the attacks.

The attacks came hours after the US said it had targeted five Iranian oil tankers in response to Iranian attacks on a US Navy warship. In response, the Revolutionary Guards said it had targeted eight American oil tankers and two warships, including one at the Jordanian air base at Mawfaq-e-Salti.

CBS also reported that US forces stationed in Jordan fired more than 30 Patriot missiles in response to the attacks.

The report comes after CBS previously reported that US stockpiles of Patriot missiles and some other advanced weapons were rapidly dwindling after months of fighting.

Pentagon officials have yet to officially confirm or deny details of the damage to aircraft at the Mawfaq-e-Salti base.
