Pakistan Claims Strikes on 10 Locations in Afghanistan

Pakistan’s Information Minister, Attaullah Tarar, has claimed that “highly precise strikes” were carried out using the air force and drones against 10 locations in Afghanistan that were “being used for launching and storing drones.”

While Pakistan did not provide specific details regarding these locations, the strikes occurred just a day after the country’s state broadcaster—citing security sources—reported that Pakistan had shot down “eight drones” that entered its airspace from Afghanistan on Wednesday morning.

Following the announcement on Thursday morning, Afghanistan’s Tolo News reported—citing Mustaghfir Gurbaz, the spokesman for the Khost governor—that “Pakistan’s strikes took place around 3:30 AM, targeting the Camp Gulan area of Gurbaz district, as well as certain areas in the Ismail Khel and Mandozai districts.” According to him, there were no casualties resulting from the strikes.

The Taliban government in Afghanistan did not specify other locations targeted in the attacks; however, Getty Images released photos provided by the news agency AFP showing flames and smoke rising following an airstrike in Kandahar.

In a post on the social media platform X, the Information Minister alleged that drones had been sent into Pakistan from Afghan territory the previous day (September 23). According to Attaullah Tarar, “This is a blatant violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and a grave, unacceptable act of aggression.”

It should be noted that yesterday, Pakistani state media—citing security sources—reported that on the morning of Wednesday, September 23, Pakistan shot down eight drones that had entered its airspace from Afghanistan.

According to the security sources cited by state media, “these drones belonged to the Afghan Taliban regime”; four were shot down in areas adjacent to the Torkham border, while the other four were targeted in the mountainous border regions near Kohat.

However, Sediqullah Nusrat, the spokesperson for the Afghan Taliban government’s Ministry of Defense, denied the allegation that eight drones from Afghanistan had entered Pakistani airspace.

Earlier, on Monday (September 21), Pakistan claimed that—based on “credible intelligence”—it had precisely targeted the hideouts of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and its affiliated groups in Afghan territory bordering Pakistan, resulting in the deaths of 28 militants, including several “suicide bombers.”

On that same day, Afghan Taliban government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid stated in a post on X that “the Afghan people will give a befitting response to this aggression.”

However, Afghan Ministry of Defense spokesperson Sediqullah Nusrat dismissed the notion that Afghanistan had launched drones at Pakistan in retaliation for the Pakistani strikes.
