Addressing the ongoing situation in Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir, Sardar Umar Nazir Kashmiri, a leader of the Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee, stated that rumors are being circulated under the guise of negotiations, while the authorities show no genuine seriousness. He clarified that the call for a ‘Long March’ remains firmly in place.
Speaking in Tararkhal, Sardar Umar Nazir Kashmiri remarked that whenever they propose negotiations, the authorities misinterpret this as a sign of weakness—even though seeking dialogue is merely an attempt to resolve issues. He emphasized that, given the current circumstances, what is needed is tangible progress rather than the rumors currently circulating about negotiations.
He also expressed concerns regarding the status of those arrested and the bodies of the martyrs. He noted that in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, individuals who are arrested are subsequently presented before a court, and in the event of a death (martyrdom), the body is returned to the family. In contrast, he pointed out that in Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir, the bodies of the martyrs remain in the custody of the authorities, and those arrested have not been produced before any court.
Specifically mentioning individuals currently in custody—including Shaukat Nawaz Mir—Umar Nazir Kashmiri asserted that all detainees must be presented before the courts in accordance with legal requirements.
He reiterated that the call for the ‘Long March’ has not been withdrawn, and that the Awami Action Committee remains steadfast in its position regarding its demands.
