China Expresses Willingness to Work with India to Maintain Peace at the Border

Responding to reports of tension between the troops of the two nations in Arunachal Pradesh, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on Monday that “China is prepared to work with India to maintain peace along the border.”

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Gu Jiakun remarked that “China has always strictly adhered to the relevant agreements and key consensuses reached with India.”

According to the Chinese state-run media outlet Global Times, the spokesperson noted that “to safeguard its territorial sovereignty and maintain stability along the border, China conducts regular patrols and surveillance activities in these border regions.”

Addressing the reports of fresh tensions along the China-India border, he stated that both countries remain in contact through diplomatic and military channels.

Gu Jiakun expressed hope that India would also work alongside China to uphold bilateral agreements and maintain peace and stability in the border areas, and that it would take concrete steps in this regard.

Last Thursday, Shatrughna Kapoor, Director General of India’s Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), stated that Indian and Chinese troops had come face-to-face at several locations in Arunachal Pradesh over the past few days—a situation that, he indicated, persists.

Following his statement, Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for India’s Ministry of External Affairs, said on October 23 that both nations are utilizing diplomatic and military channels to discuss unresolved issues along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and to prevent any misunderstandings or miscalculations.
