Energy Crisis: Smart Lockdown Implemented in Pakistani Kashmir, Decision to Limit Business Hours

The Pakistani Kashmir government has issued an official notification deciding to impose a smart lockdown in the region in view of the limited availability of petrol.

According to the notification issued, all shops and business centers will be required to close by 8 pm, while wedding halls and hotels have been instructed to close completely by 10 pm.

The government has exempted some essential services from these restrictions, including medical stores, hospitals, laboratories, tandoors, bakeries and milk shops, so that the provision of basic amenities to the public is not affected.

According to the administration, the aim of the smart lockdown is to limit unnecessary movement and control the situation arising due to fuel shortage. Authorities have appealed to citizens to ensure implementation of government instructions and step out of their homes only under essential circumstances.

According to sources, if the situation does not improve, more stringent measures may be taken.
