Student Convention in Poonch: Demand for Self-Determination, Right to Ownership of Resources and Revolutionary Government

A grand convention, rally and training session was organized by the Jammu Kashmir National Students Federation (JKNSF) District Poonch at the district headquarters Rawalakot, in which a large number of students participated.

Addressing the convention, the speakers rejected the Karachi Agreement and demanded that the right of ownership of the local people over all the resources of the state be recognized.

The speakers said that a revolutionary government should be established by uniting Gilgit-Baltistan and Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir, which would be the true representative of the people’s interests.

The student leaders, describing the fundamental problem of this region as “national deprivation”, said that it is imperative to include the national right to self-determination in the charter of demands of the Awami Tehreek.

According to them, the concept of right to ownership and right to rule is incomplete without the right to self-determination.

In the convention, JKNSF announced its full support to the people’s movement and expressed its determination that students will continue to play their role in the struggle for public rights at all levels.

On this occasion, the election of the new cabinet of Poonch district was also held, under which Comrade Asad Yusuf was elected as the District Chairman. The newly elected cabinet was administered oath by Central President Dr. Najeebullah.

At the end of the convention, the determination was reiterated that the struggle will continue until the complete independence, autonomy, prosperity and establishment of a classless society of the motherland state of Jammu and Kashmir.
