On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, the Awami Workers Party Gilgit-Baltistan has demanded the immediate release of young journalist Adnan Rawat.
The party leaders say that imprisoning journalists for performing their professional duties, especially under anti-terrorism laws, is a very worrying and condemnable act.
The press release states that freedom of the press is the foundation of any democratic society, and harassing journalists or using harsh laws against them is against the requirements of justice.
The Awami Workers Party is of the view that all detained journalists, including Adnan Rawat, should be released immediately and they should be guaranteed to perform their duties without fear or intimidation.
The party has demanded that the government ensure the safety of journalists and avoid such measures that lead to restrictions on freedom of expression.
