Tens of thousands of people were seen in the Strait of Hormuz between Iran and the US on Thursday night.
Iranian officials accused the US of violating the ceasefire agreement (April 7) by targeting an Iranian oil tanker and a ship near Fujairah.
According to the Revolutionary Guards, the Iranian armed forces immediately retaliated and damaged the US military ships.
Iranian media reported hearing explosions near Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island, but state television said that “life is going on as usual.”
US President Donald Trump confirmed that three US destroyers were attacked but no damage was done.
He said that the Iranian “aggressors” had suffered heavy losses. Trump described the exchange of fire as a “small friendly blow” and said that the ceasefire and US sanctions remain in place.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement that the Iranian attacks were “unprovoked” and that US forces acted defensively.
CENTCOM added that no US personnel or equipment were harmed and that forces are on “full alert”.
Trump has said in recent days that a war with Iran “will be over soon” and that he is working to advance a 14-point memorandum of understanding.
