Jammu and Kashmir People’s National Party Chairman Wajid Ali Advocate has said that if Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari truly believes in the right to property and the right to rule of the people, then this should be expressed not only through slogans in election rallies but also through practical politics and government measures.
In a statement, Wajid Ali Advocate said that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is addressing an election rally in Dodial, Jammu and Kashmir today, however, the real question before the people is that when movements demanding fundamental rights, public authority over resources and democratic freedoms face cases, arrests and use of force, what is the status of the claims of the right to rule?
He said that on the one hand, the leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party claims to support the people’s right to rule and the right to property, while on the other hand, during the rule of the same party, those who demanded people’s rights were declared terrorists, which is a clear political contradiction.
Wajid Ali Advocate said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have proven through various public movements that they believe in an organized and peaceful political struggle for their fundamental rights, social justice and democratic freedoms. The participation of workers, farmers, students, youth, women and other sections is proof that there is democratic consciousness in the society and the people see the solution to their problems in collective struggle and public participation.
He said that the right to property and the right to rule do not only mean the right to vote, but it is also necessary for the people to have real power over their land, resources, economy and political future. If decisions are made according to the interests of the powerful classes instead of the wishes of the people, then democracy becomes a mere formality.
The Chairman Jammu Kashmir Peoples National Party said that the state should focus on the root causes of the people’s economic, social and political demands instead of making them a matter of law and order. According to him, the real question is who has control over resources, land, electricity, water and the economy and to which class are the benefits derived from them limited.
He further said that the struggle for the right to rule in Jammu and Kashmir needs to be seen not only as a constitutional or electoral issue but as a broader social and economic issue. According to him, true democracy can be strong only when differences of opinion are respected, public rights are recognized and solutions to political problems are sought through dialogue, democratic process and public mandate.
