The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), an agency set up to deal with natural disasters in Pakistan’s Punjab province, has said that 21 people were killed and 154 people were injured in accidents caused by rains across the province from June 25 to July 22.
According to official figures, the dead include nine men, four women and eight children. The total number of injured is 154, including 67 men, 41 women and 46 children.
According to the figures released by the PDMA, five people died in Gujranwala, while three deaths were reported in Attock, Jhang and Pakpattan. One person each died in Khushab, Mianwali, Chiniot, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Gujrat and Sahiwal.
According to the PDMA, 38 houses were damaged across Punjab, of which 37 were partially and one was completely destroyed. Gujranwala was the worst affected with nine houses damaged, while damage to houses was also recorded in several districts including Mianwali, Muzaffargarh, Jhang and Mandi Bahauddin.
