During a long march of the Jammu Kashmir Joint Public Action Committee (JPAC) in Rawalakot district of Pakistan-administered Kashmir, security forces opened fire on participants of the long march to prevent them from advancing.
There are reports of dozens of people being killed in the firing by the forces, while 5 have been confirmed.
According to initial and unofficial reports, five civilians have been killed so far and dozens have been injured in the firing.
The dead include Usman Nazir, brother of JAC corps member Omar Nazir Kashmiri.
According to eyewitnesses, the city’s electricity was also shut down at around 8 pm, while intermittent firing and shelling continues in different areas.
However, the number of deaths and injuries has not yet been officially confirmed.
Protesters claim that the forces have occupied the hospitals.
