A former Pakistani Army commando and Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) commander was killed in firing by Pakistani forces in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
It should be noted that he was a participant in the Awami Tehreek.
According to local journalist Ajmal Shaheen of Rawalakot city of Pakistan-administered Kashmir, Commander Sardar Muhammad Farooq Khan, one of the founding members of the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), died of his injuries at Ming Hospital on Thursday. He was 85 years old.
However, some sources say that he was injured in firing by forces while participating in the Awami Tehreek and was first shifted to Ming Hospital and later to Rawalpindi.
Commander Farooq came under fire from forces on July 28 when the Long March convoy was entering Rawalakot. He was hit by two bullets during the firing, after which he was shifted to Mang Hospital in critical condition and then shifted to Rawalpindi for further treatment, where he could not survive.
Commander Sardar Muhammad Farooq Khan belonged to Mang tehsil of Sidhnauti district. He was among the founding members of the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) and was considered a close associate of the late JKLF chief Amanullah Khan.
When the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front started its armed struggle in Indian-administered Kashmir, Commander Farooq was active in providing military training to the youth. Amanullah Khan has also mentioned this role in his book “Jahd-e-Jahd-e-Mishal”.
Commander Farooq had also served in the Special Services Group (SSG) of the Pakistan Army. After retirement, he joined the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF).
