At least 56 people have been executed in Iran since March 19 on charges related to national security, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk said in a statement.
According to official information, 27 of those executed were in connection with the January protests.
According to Volker Turk, the rate of death sentences and executions in Iran has increased significantly since the start of the war.
He urged the Iranian authorities to immediately impose a moratorium on all capital punishment and gradually move towards its complete abolition.
On the other hand, the head of Iran’s judiciary has on several occasions instructed prosecutors to take immediate action in the cases of those arrested during the January protests and those detained after the war, and to ensure that sentences are carried out without delay in accordance with the law.
