Hundreds of workers of the Jammu Kashmir Joint Public Action Committee were detained during the state crackdown in Pakistan-administered Kashmir on June 5 and subsequent raids in various areas. According to political activists, the detainees include students, political activists, journalists and several core members of the organization.
Political activists claim that despite the passage of several weeks since their detention, many people have not been produced in any court, nor have their families been informed about their current situation.
Activists say that according to the Constitution of Pakistan and relevant legal requirements, the arrested people should be produced before the competent court within the stipulated time. According to them, if there is any allegation against a person, legal action should be taken against him in a transparent manner.
Political activists further said that the government has declared them “Indian agents” for demanding rights, while they maintain that they were carrying out a peaceful political struggle. They say that after taking several people into custody, they were not even allowed to meet their families and information about their presence is not being provided.
