Lives snatched at gunpoint, stories of Kashmiri victims

In Pakistan-administered Kashmir, a mass movement of unarmed civilians has been ongoing for the past two and a half months to protest for their basic human and economic rights. In response to this demand for rights, a complete blockade has been imposed across the state. Despite the internet shutdown, severe shortage of food and medicine, crackdowns and shutter-downs, central sit-ins are being held in various areas including Rawalakot.
During this mass movement, hundreds of civilians have been killed, hundreds injured due to direct firing by Pakistani forces, and countless people have been forcibly disappeared or arrested and are being held in various jails, where their families are not even allowed to meet them.

During the long march of the banned Jammu Kashmir Joint Public Action Committee in Pakistan-administered Kashmir on July 27 and 28, 33-year-old Kashif Yaqoob from Chhota Gula Mehra was also killed in firing by Pakistani forces.
Kashif Yaqoob’s brother Yasir Yaqoob said that Kashif was a businessman by profession who had a cosmetics shop in Rawalakot and was associated with the movement from day one.
Kashif was martyred at 6:30 pm on July 27 at Galiyat Rawalakot. 23 days after Kashif’s death, his father died of a heat attack. He could not bear the grief of Kashif.

Kashif Yaqoob’s friend said that Kashif was like my older brother. When he removed the shroud from the body and saw it, the emotions were indescribable.
