Pakistan’s Chief of Armed Forces General Asim Munir has said that two new units are being added to the country’s Defence Industrial Complex to meet the country’s arms export requirements.
He said that for this purpose, two new production plants will be set up in Pakistan, so that the requirements for arms exports can be met easily.
The army chief said this on Saturday during a visit to the Pakistan Ordnance Factory Wah. He said that by expanding its arms manufacturing sector, he wants to do so in view of the interest shown in Pakistani arms at the international level.
General Asim Munir also reviewed the production capacity of the Ordnance Factory and its capacity can be further increased to meet the arms export requirements and targets.
His visit was an important step towards progress towards self-reliance in terms of military requirements. General Asim Munir was briefed by the relevant authorities about the new plants and said that this is part of our efforts for self-reliance, which will strengthen our ongoing efforts to increase defense production.
According to the Western news agency ‘Reuters’, Pakistan has held talks with 13 different countries regarding arms sales. These talks have entered the advanced stage with six to eight of these countries.
Along with the above-mentioned countries, other countries have also shown considerable interest in the JF-17 Thunder fighter aircraft jointly developed by Pakistan and China. In addition, various countries have also expressed their interest in Pakistani aircraft used for training purposes. Also, the performance of Pakistani-made drones and air defense systems, tanks and armored vehicles has also been impressive for these countries.
During his visit to the Wah factory, Asim Munir was also briefed about the ongoing efforts to make POF a corporation. The same year, the Defense Industrial Production Regulatory Authority was also established. This effort has been made to restructure Pakistan’s defense production structure. The private sector has also increased its participation in this field.
This forum called ‘Depra’ was established in June this year. So that government factories and private sector arms producers can be organized under a new regulatory system and preparations can be made for the export sector.
According to the armed forces’ spokesperson, ‘ISPR’, Field Marshal Asim Munir also witnessed a demonstration of testing of locally manufactured weapons during his visit to the Wah factory.
