Balochistan: Heavy clashes in Bhag city, curfew and air strikes in Zehri, jet bombing in Shaban

The security situation in various districts of Balochistan has become extremely explosive. On one hand, armed men have taken control of Bhag city in Bolan district, while on the other hand, reports of loss of life and property of civilians as a result of aerial bombing, drone attacks and military operations in Khuzdar, Quetta and Kalat areas are being received.

According to sources, a large number of armed men suddenly entered Bhag city in Bolan district and took control of several important government and defense installations, including police stations and banks. Heavy exchange of fire is ongoing between security forces and armed men at various intersections and highways of the city, which has spread fear and intense tension in the area.

Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for the attack on a Pakistani army convoy and deputy commissioner at Ziarat Cross, releasing a 1 minute 11 second video trailer on its official media channel ‘Hakal’. The video shows armed militants near damaged vehicles and taking over government weapons. The BLA has claimed the death of 18 personnel in the attack.

In another operation in the same area, a major construction company on the Quetta-Zhob National Highway was attacked and eight dumpers, two caterpillar loaders, an excavator and other machinery worth crores of rupees were set on fire.

The curfew imposed in Sunni and its surroundings of Tehsil Zehri of Khuzdar district for the past several months has been tightened. A woman who was trying to fetch water was killed and two people, including another woman, were seriously injured in a quadcopter (drone) attack by the forces.

During the operation, the forces have detained 25 local residents from Sunni and shifted them to an unknown location. Due to the suspension of mobile network and communication links in the area, there is a severe obstacle in identifying the hostages and obtaining more details.

Pakistan Army jets carried out heavy bombing in the Shaban mountain ranges adjacent to Quetta at midnight last night, which made the entire area echo with the sound of explosions. Earlier, several houses were also destroyed in the Dasht-e-Goran area of Kalat due to the bombing of jets.

Political and social organizations have expressed deep concern over the continuous drone attacks, mortar shelling and bombing in civilian areas of Balochistan and have appealed to international human rights organizations for immediate intervention.
