In the Haveli district of Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir, the families of leaders from the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC)—who have raised their voices for fundamental rights—are being subjected to severe political victimization by the administration and military agencies.
According to reports, the National Identity Cards (CNICs) of the families of active JAAC members—Murtaza Sharif Mir, Waqar Qamar Mir, and Faisal Javed Mir—have been blocked.
Local circles and human rights activists have condemned the suspension of these identity cards, describing it as an assault on citizens’ civil rights and a reprehensible tactic of extreme state oppression.
It is pertinent to note that the Government of Pakistan and its powerful military and intelligence agencies (such as the ISI) have been consistently employing illegal, unconstitutional, and aggressive tactics to sabotage the ongoing public movement in Azad Kashmir, which demands affordable flour, fair electricity tariffs, and fundamental constitutional and political rights. Despite the unrestrained use of power and authority, the movement’s leaders and ordinary citizens are bravely resisting this state repression and remain steadfast, refusing to back down from their demands.
Leaders associated with the movement state that these acts of retaliation, card blocking, and intimidation demonstrate that the strategic maneuvers employed by the ISI and other intelligence agencies have completely failed in the face of this public unity.
Terming the blocking of identity cards a grave human rights violation, the Awami Action Committee has demanded their immediate restoration, asserting that such fascist tactics cannot suppress the legitimate struggle for rights.
