A “public notice” issued by Manzar Hussain Chughtai, the SHO of the police in Muzaffarabad (the capital of Pakistan-administered territory), on July 6, 2026, has once again exposed the true face of the state.
Shaukat Nawaz Mir, a central leader of the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JKJAAC), was taken into custody publicly in broad daylight by Pakistani security forces approximately three months ago (June 5, 2026)—an event documented by video evidence.
After holding him in illegal custody and subjecting him to enforced disappearance for three months, the Muzaffarabad police have now—using the name of his sister (Ms. Yasmeen Mir)—made a puerile attempt to create the impression that Shaukat Nawaz Mir is not in the custody of the forces but has instead gone missing of his own accord.
The same stale charade used in Balochistan—involving the concealment of enforced disappearances, the issuance of fake public notices, and the coercion of families into making specific statements—is now being attempted as a “flop formula” in Pakistan-administered Kashmir. The public is fully aware of the reality of his detention and sees through these theatrical tactics employed by the forces and intelligence agencies.
The immediate and safe recovery of Shaukat Nawaz Mir from the custody of the forces must be ensured!
