The Accountability Bureau of Pakistani Jammu and Kashmir has taken strict notice of the non-return of illegal official vehicles by 4 former ministers and members of the Legislative Assembly of the state and ordered immediate recovery through the police.
In a letter issued by the Ombudsman Secretariat to the IG of Jammu and Kashmir Police, it has been said that the Ombudsman has taken suo motu notice under Section 9(1) of the Ombudsman Act, 1992 for the return of the vehicles. The letter has revealed that several official vehicles are in the illegal possession of influential figures.
According to the notice, Member of Legislative Assembly Alam Sharif Butt is using Fortuner number MDGA-038, Kausar Taqdis Gilani Fortuner MDDA-941 and Toyota Grande MDGD-555. Similarly, Member of Assembly Javed Butt is using Fortuner MDGC-555 while Muhammad Akbar Ibrahim is using Prado number MDGA-811 illegally.
The letter further states that formal notices have also been issued by the Services and General Administration Department for the return of these vehicles, however, the concerned persons have not yet handed over the vehicles to the Central Transport Pool.
The Ombudsman of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, expressing his anger over this situation, has directed that the illegally detained government vehicles should be immediately taken into custody by the police and submitted to the Services and General Administration Department (Central Transport Pool) and a compliance report should be submitted within a day.
It should be remembered that the four members mentioned above were part of the cabinet of former Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq. More than two months have passed since Faisal Rathore’s government after the no-confidence motion, however, there is concern in the administrative circles over the non-return of government vehicles by former ministers.
