Stages Set in Palandri and Rawalakot; Police Fire and Raid Leaders’ Homes

Thousands of people have gathered at Maqbool Butt Shaheed Chowk in Palandri and Rawalakot for historic public rallies organized by the Public Action Committee—part of a movement for civil rights in Pakistan-administered Kashmir—while processions of citizens continue to arrive from various areas.

According to sources, intense public resistance is being witnessed in Palandri in anticipation of the so-called President’s visit to his native constituency. The main highway leading from Azad Pattan to Palandri has been completely blocked at multiple points.

At Galkot, police opened heavy fire in an attempt to clear the route, reportedly injuring a young man; however, despite the intense shelling and gunfire, the road could not be cleared due to the public’s resistance.

An atmosphere of gunfire and tension prevails across Palandri and surrounding areas, with reports of multiple injuries.

Protesters state that the only remaining route for the President to enter Palandri is via Tahliyan, where Public Action Committee activists and resistance members are already waiting with the road blocked. Despite all state-imposed obstacles, a massive rally is scheduled to be held in Palandri at 2:00 PM, followed by the formal commencement of the public meeting.

Meanwhile, in the Kattan area of Neelum Valley, a large police contingent raided the homes of Public Action Committee members Sajjad Mir and Chaudhry Imran, committing severe violations of private property and human rights. According to the family, police personnel violated the sanctity of the home, entered the premises, and—under the pretext of a search—looted mobile phones, cash, and valuable jewelry before fleeing.
