Nabila Irshad (Advocate)—Chairperson of the Jammu Kashmir Democratic Party, a senior lawyer, and an assembly election candidate—has been arrested from her residence in Islamabad. Family sources confirmed the arrest, stating that the Islamabad Police took her into custody at approximately 2:00 AM.
According to family sources, a police contingent—including female officers—arrived at her residence in two vehicles, one of which was a private vehicle. Subsequently, Nabila Irshad was taken into custody and transferred to the Women’s Police Station (Sector F-7).
Reports indicate that Nabila Irshad’s name has been included in the “Fourth Schedule” by the Home Department of Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir for several months. However, further details regarding the specific reasons and legal grounds for her arrest have not yet been disclosed.
Nabila Irshad hails from Mang, in the Sudhnoti district of Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir. She is a senior member of the Islamabad District Bar Association and has long advocated for fundamental human rights, democratic values, civil liberties, and the supremacy of the constitution and the rule of law.
Amid the current political climate in Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir, she has continued to champion the protection of civil rights and uphold democratic principles. Advocate Nabila Irshad is among the political and social figures who, a few months ago, were traveling to Rawalakot alongside opposition leaders—specifically former Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar—when they were stopped by the police at Kahuta.
Following her arrest, legal and political circles are awaiting further details regarding the matter. The reasons for the arrest and the status of the legal proceedings will become clear once an official statement is issued by the police or relevant authorities.
