USA: 5 Killed, Including 3 Children and a Teacher, in School Shooting

Five people—including three children and a teacher—were killed, and two others were critically injured, in a shooting incident at Silver Rail Elementary School in the U.S. state of Oregon.

According to the police, five individuals were found dead at the scene, including the alleged attacker. The fatalities include three children, aged 5, 8, and 11, and a teacher.

A seven-year-old child and a 54-year-old teacher were critically injured in the incident and were transported to St. Charles Bend Hospital. Police stated that the families of all the victims have been notified.

Authorities have identified the attacker as a 16-year-old resident of the city of Bend. Police confirmed that a local citizen had shot the alleged attacker.

Shortly before 1:00 PM, police received a call from an individual in a vehicle, reporting that a person carrying a “long gun” had fired multiple shots at them. Subsequently, dozens of 911 calls were received from inside the school.

Police officers arrived at the scene within three minutes; however, by that time, the school had already gone into lockdown.

Local Police Chief Mike Krantz stated that a “long gun” was used in the shooting, though its specific type cannot be disclosed at this time. He added that it is not yet known whether the attacker had any personal connection to anyone at the school.

Authorities have indicated that further information regarding the incident will be released on Friday.
