Kashmiri Journalist Mukhtar Baba, Based in Islamabad, Missing for 5 Days; Deep Concern Among Journalistic Circles

Mukhtar Baba, a prominent journalist originally from Srinagar and currently based in Islamabad, has been mysteriously missing for the past five days. His disappearance has sparked deep concern within the journalistic community in Kashmir, as well as in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

It is worth noting that just last month, the Home Department of Azad Kashmir placed Mukhtar Baba’s name on the ‘Fourth Schedule,’ which has further heightened concerns regarding his safety.

This disappearance occurs at a time when, over the past four months, more than 100 people have been killed due to the brutal violence of occupying forces amidst a peaceful public movement in Kashmir. Furthermore, hundreds of activists have been subjected to enforced disappearances or imprisoned. Despite this—and in the face of intense state oppression and the enforcement of draconian laws like the ‘Fourth Schedule’—the public remains on the streets, protesting for their rights.

Kashgal News calls upon human rights groups and journalistic organizations to ensure the immediate recovery of Mukhtar Baba.
