In an important appointment in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, retired Chief Justice Ghulam Mustafa Mughal has been appointed Chief Election Commissioner Azad Jammu and Kashmir. A formal notification has also been issued in this regard by the Chairman Kashmir Council and the Prime Minister of Pakistan Secretariat.
According to the official announcement, Ghulam Mustafa Mughal has previously served as the Chief Justice of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir High Court and has extensive experience in legal and judicial matters. His appointment as Chief Election Commissioner is being described as an important step towards the transparent and orderly conduct of the upcoming elections.
Government circles say that the new appointment will help further strengthen the electoral system and consolidate the democratic process, while the opposition is also likely to react to this decision.
According to sources, the newly appointed Chief Election Commissioner will soon assume charge of his post and review the ongoing affairs of the Election Commission.
