Conflicting claims of casualties in clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan

The clashes that began between Thursday and Friday night in the border areas between Pakistan and Afghanistan have created severe tension in the relations of the two countries.

Afghan Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid has claimed that his forces targeted several Pakistani check posts, captured some and killed 55 Pakistani army personnel in the operations.

The Taliban Defense Ministry added that some military personnel were also taken hostage during the clashes, but according to them, the attacks were stopped at 12 am on the orders of the deputy emir.

The Taliban also confirmed the death of eight of its fighters and the injury of 11.

The Pakistani government, calling the attacks “unprovoked”, launched counter-attacks in Afghanistan, which have been named “Operation Ghazb-ul-Haq”.

According to Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Afghan Taliban defense targets in Kabul, Paktika and Kandahar have been targeted.

He claims that 133 Afghan Taliban personnel have been killed and more than 200 injured in the operations. Moreover, Pakistan has also claimed to have destroyed two Taliban corps headquarters, two weapons depots, a logistics warehouse, three battalion headquarters, two sector headquarters and more than 80 tanks.

Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has threatened Afghanistan with “open war”, saying that Pakistan’s patience has run out.

The BBC and other sources have not been able to independently verify these claims, but conflicting statements about casualties and losses are emerging from both sides. Tensions remain high in the border areas and both countries are giving indications of further operations.
