Gilgit: Karakoram Students Organization protests harassment of Comrade Mir Babar

Karakoram National Movement and Karakoram Students Organization (KSO) Dinwar in Pakistan-administered Gilgit-Baltistan have strongly condemned the unjustified harassment of KSO Vice Chairman Comrade Mir Babar by the police station.

In a joint statement, the spokespersons of the organizations said that Comrade Mir Babar is a peaceful and conscientious political activist who has always been active for the resolution of public rights and educational issues. The continuous harassment and intimidation of him by the police is nothing but political revenge, which will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

The statement further said that the female SDPO of Dinwar police should focus her attention against the terrorist elements and sectarian forces who are a constant threat to the peace of the area instead of misusing her power to target peaceful political activists. It is a matter of great concern that the police, forgetting their real responsibilities, are pursuing political activists, while criminal elements are roaming freely.

We demand from the administration and higher authorities that the ongoing acts of retaliation against Comrade Mir Babar be stopped immediately and disciplinary action be taken against the harassing officers. If this cycle of oppression and harassment is not stopped, the Karakoram National Movement and KSO will be forced to jointly expand the scope of the protest, for which the entire responsibility will lie with the concerned police authorities.
