Kashgil News Exclusive Report

Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir, which is called the paradise of the world, is being left by its residents and is facing economic exile. This trend is not new, but it has intensified in the last few years. Many youth who have completed their education from universities are seen migrating to the Middle East and Europe due to lack of employment opportunities in the region.

In this regard, we spoke to the students of the Law Department and Public Relations Department of three major universities in the three divisions of Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir, Muzaffarabad, Poonch and Kotli, and tried to find out the reasons for the growing brain drain in the region.

Merit Violation, Unemployment, Insecurity – these are the reasons why we want to leave this region. These are the sentences of the students studying in these universities. This survey shows that the youth of the region are now seeing their future in the region as bleak.

Growing brain drain in the region and the political elite of the region

Pakistan-administered Kashmir has been under protest for the past two years, while the protesters participating in these protests are mostly young people who seem fed up with the political elite of the region. Regarding the brain drain and illegal migration in the region, former Prime Minister of Kashmir Chaudhry Anwarul Haq says that there is no rule of law in this region, there is no rule of law here, due to which the youth of the region no longer want to stay here and are trying to leave here, while on the other hand, the current Prime Minister of Pakistani Kashmir, Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, says that the youth should leave the state and migrate, livelihood is not found sitting on the lap of the mother, we do not have the resources, that is why the youth should leave.

Political Analyst

According to political analysts, the political elite of the region wants the youth here to migrate from here so that foreign exchange comes and we can enjoy status here. According to analysts, the youth of any region are its capital and the state tries to protect them, but according to the political elite that has emerged with a burst of colonial thinking, the youth are their source of income.

Report by the Bureau of Immigration Pakistan

The report issued by the Bureau of Immigration did not give any figures for the number of people who went abroad from Pakistan-administered Kashmir, but in total, seven hundred and sixty-two thousand four hundred and ninety-nine Pakistanis left Pakistan in search of employment in the year 2025. These figures also include citizens of Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Among those who went abroad, eighteen thousand three hundred and fifty-two are people with higher education. It should be remembered that at present, the education rate of Pakistani Kashmir is more than seventy percent.

What do highly educated young people think

Highly educated young people from Pakistan-administered Kashmir mostly want to travel to Europe for a bright future. When we spoke to students living in the UK, they said that we Pakistanis, in a state of despair in Kashmir, have been forced to migrate here after spending millions of rupees and taking many dreams of our loved ones. There are difficulties here, but when we look back, we see a ray of hope here again. Although work opportunities are less available along with studies, the hours of work we get still pay well, with which we send foreign exchange to our loved ones along with our livelihood.
