Gilgit-Baltistan: Firing on protesters unacceptable, Public Action Committee demands formation of judicial commission

An important meeting of the Public Action Committee Gilgit-Baltistan was held under the chairmanship of Central Chairman Ehsan Ali Advocate. In which cabinet officials from across the district, regional representatives and members participated.

The meeting discussed in detail the current political and social situation of Gilgit-Baltistan and the recent incidents.

The participants of the meeting strongly condemned the attack on Iran by the United States and Israel and expressed deep sorrow, grief and anger over the martyrdom of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and other high-ranking officials.

The participants said that such actions are a violation of international laws and humanitarian principles and may pose a threat to regional peace.

The meeting also expressed concern over the incidents that took place during the protests in Gilgit-Baltistan in response to the aforementioned incident. The participants expressed deep sorrow and grief over the martyrdom of more than eighteen youths and the injury of more than twenty people during the protest and strongly condemned the direct firing on the protesters.

The Public Action Committee demanded that an independent and empowered judicial commission be immediately established for a transparent investigation into the incident and that the FIRs registered against the protesters, especially those registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA), be withdrawn.

After the meeting, a delegation of the Public Action Committee visited the Central Imamia Mosque Gilgit where they met Agha Rahat Hussain Al-Hussaini and other scholars and elders. On this occasion, Fateha was offered for the elevation of the ranks of the martyrs and the tragedy was condemned.

Later, the delegation visited the District Headquarters Hospital Gilgit and visited the injured during the protest and prayed for their speedy recovery.

At the end of the meeting, special prayers were also offered for the elevation of the ranks of the martyrs and peace and stability in Gilgit-Baltistan.
